All signs point to a possible debut for Pedro Pagés with the Lions of Caracas in the upcoming season of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP). Pagés was selected with the #4 overall pick in the LVBP draft by the melenudos (the Lions’ nickname) back in December.
This would mark the 26-year-old catcher’s first experience in Venezuelan winter ball,and it’s a prospect that excites fans. Pagés has already expressed his desire to play for Caracas, but his participation hinges on approval from his MLB organization.
Currently in his second season in the Major Leagues, Pagés is hitting .211 with eight doubles, 35 RBIs, 29 runs scored, 57 hits, and an OPS of .597 in 270 plate appearances. Gaining experience in the LVBP would be invaluable for his advancement, allowing him to refine his skills against a different level of competition and in front of a passionate fanbase.
