bernie Sanders Slams Elon musk as “Right-Wing Extremist” Over Trump Feud
Updated June 08, 2025
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., has dismissed the possibility of Democrats collaborating with Elon Musk, branding the Tesla CEO a “right-wing extremist.” This statement follows Musk’s public falling out with former President Donald Trump.
Sanders addressed the issue on CNN’s “State of the Union,” hosted by Dana Bash. Bash inquired weather Democrats should consider working with Musk after his recent split with Trump. Sanders firmly rejected the idea, citing Musk’s political evolution.
Musk, who once “strongly supported Obama,” according to his own statements, has shifted toward right-wing ideologies,Sanders said. Musk himself stated in April 2022 that the Democratic Party had been “hijacked by extremists.” The senator views the Trump and Musk drama as evidence of a slide toward oligarchy, calling it an “embarrassment” to democracy.

Musk had previously endorsed Trump and served as a key supporter, investing heavily in his election. He briefly led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump, aiming to cut federal waste. However, his tenure was marked by controversy and fell short of promised savings.
The relationship between Trump and Musk deteriorated after Trump rescinded Jared Isaacman’s nomination to lead NASA. Musk then criticized Trump’s legislative efforts and repeated unverified claims regarding the so-called Epstein files.
Trump has as warned of “very serious consequences” if Musk supports Democratic candidates.
