Sandra Bullock Supports Dakota Johnson After Razzie Win
Dakota Johnson, Sandra Bullock Plan Razzie Brunch After ‘Madame Web’ Win
Dakota Johnson, recently awarded a Razzie for Worst Actress for her role in “Madame Web,” shared that she received a congratulatory voice note from Sandra Bullock, another actress who has experienced the dubious honor of winning a Golden Raspberry award. Johnson revealed the story on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast, discussing her Razzie victory with humor.
When Poehler inquired about the award, Johnson quipped, “This really good movie called Madame Web, I don’t know if you’ve heard of it,” acknowledging her second Golden Raspberry win, the first being in 2015 for “Fifty Shades of Gray.”
The highlight, Johnson said, was Bullock’s message: “I heard you are in the Razzie Club, we should have brunch, like a monthly brunch.”
“but I freaked out getting this message from her, because she’s so iconic to me as a movie star. I was like,‘Oh my God!’ It was just crazy,” Johnson said.
Bullock earned her Worst Actress Razzie in 2010 for “All About Steve,” a year after winning the Best actress Oscar for “The Blind Side.” Johnson noted that Bullock even requested a physical Razzie award, but the institution later asked for its return due to a shortage of trophies.
Poehler also discussed Johnson’s ability to joke about the Razzie and how it influences her project choices. Johnson explained that actors often lack control over a film’s final outcome. She added that projects frequently enough shift dramatically from their initial concept.
“That is a wild thing,” she said. “A crazy journey to go on as an artist, because you’re like,‘OK,I’m doing something with my actual and my actual mind,my heart,my emotions … And it’s just being taken and fucked with.’ But you can’t do anything about it. Like, what am I going to do? Cry about Madame Web? No. I’m gonna laugh about it.”
What’s next
Johnson is expected to continue to embrace her role as a public figure who can laugh at herself, while also advocating for more creative control for actors in the film industry. The Razzie brunch with Bullock is anticipated to be a recurring event.
