Sandro Giacobbe, Italian Singer-Songwriter, Dies at 75

Early Life and Career Beginnings
Sandro Giacobbe,born in Genoa on December 14,1949,to a father of Sicilian origins and a mother from Lucania,passed away today in his home in Cogorno,in the eastern part of Genoa. He was 75 years old. A source close to the family confirmed his death after a battle with cancer lasting over ten years.
At the age of 16, Giacobbe chose to pursue music over accounting studies, forming the band Giacobbe & le Allucinazioni with friends. They began performing in clubs throughout the Liguria region.
Breakthrough and Success with “Signora Mia”
In 1971,Giacobbe signed his first record contract with Dischi ricordi,releasing the single “Per tre minuti e poi.” He later moved to CBS Records and achieved notable success in 1974 with the release of “Signora mia.” This song became a national and international hit, charting in Italy and abroad throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
“Signora mia” also gained prominence as part of the soundtrack for Lina Wertmüller’s film “Overwhelmed by an unusual destiny in the blue sea of August,” with original music composed by Piero Piccioni. Another song from the album, ”Signora addio,” was performed by gianni Nazzaro.
Later Years and football Passion
After decades of living in Moneglia, Giacobbe recently relocated to San salvatore di Cogorno. Before his musical career took off, he played football for the local team in Moneglia and later joined the National Singers team, even serving as thier coach.
