The Teniente Francisco Grandi Giraud promenade -between Plaza España and the port area- hosted tonight the opening ceremony of the Santa Cruz Carnival 2026, dedicated to “Latin Rhythms”, while also serving for the draw of the order of participation of the candidates for Queen who will compete in the three modalities, an evening starring the 32 candidates of this edition who learned their order of appearance on stage in their galas through the draw that took place during the show, which began at 9:30 p.m.with the performance of the artist Anaé,with the collaboration of Loli Pérez and the carnival troupes.
Elvis Sanfiel was in charge of hosting this first event of the capital’s carnival, a show directed by Daniel Pages and broadcast live through Televisión canaria for the entire Archipelago, where nearly a thousand spectators gathered live to enjoy this start of the quintessential chicharrera festival.
The event unfolded smoothly on a stage set up for the occasion on the Teniente Francisco Grandi Giraud promenade, through which passed, for the first time in an opening gala, a representation of almost all of the carnival groups dressed in their costumes from the previous year. This event,in which the artist Zaida Almeida also performed,marked the start of the most international festival of Santa Cruz,with the participation of Canarian artists and the dance groups of the chicharrera carnival.
During the Inaugural Gala of the Carnival, the mayor, José manuel Bermúdez, revealed and anticipated the surprise that, in this edition, in the Queen Gala on february 11th, the renowned interpreter Manny Manuel will participate.
