PONCE, Puerto Rico ⁢– The arrival of the world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas,⁢ in Ponce, Puerto ⁣Rico, spurred an influx of tourists eager to experience the island’s coastal attractions, especially Playa Santa in Guánica.

As early as 7:00 a.m., hundreds of cruise passengers disembarked with ⁢the primary goal of reaching Playa⁣ Santa,⁤ according to ⁣a representative from Discover Puerto Rico.

Guánica Prepares for Tourist Influx

guánica‍ Mayor Ismael “Titi” Rodríguez Ramos expressed enthusiasm⁤ about the increased tourism. “We⁤ are ‍vrey ⁤happy. Our beaches don’t have to envy anyone,” he stated after a press conference in la Guancha,Ponce, with⁢ Gov.⁢ Jenniffer González Colón.

“They have been arriving (tourists). They have been enjoying the beach,⁢ the ‘Jet Skis’, the cold coconuts,” Rodríguez⁣ Ramos added, highlighting the activities enjoyed by visitors.

Organized Tours⁣ and Self-reliant Travel

By noon,⁣ approximately 400 tourists had arrived at Playa Santa via organized transportation included in packages ‍sold by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (CTPR) in collaboration with Isla Caribe and Royal caribbean, according to officials.

The $100 package included transportation to Guánica, a beach chair, and promotional materials from the ⁣CTPR, rodríguez Ramos ⁤said.

Other tourists opted for ⁤private taxis⁢ to‍ reach the beach independently.

Melina Aguilar, owner of Caribbean Island, confirmed ‍via social media that the cruise ship offered packages⁤ for tourists to visit “more then six experiences” in municipalities including Coamo, Santa Isabel, Guánica, ⁤Adjuntas, and Ponce.

“We can’t sell any. It has been well uphill, because⁣ tourists are looking for beach,” said Cristina Torres, director of Economic Development and Tourism for the ⁢municipality. She noted that some locations offered free tours, further complicating their efforts.

“The reality is that it ⁢is indeed well uphill,” Torres reiterated, expressing hope for improved results when the cruise ship returns in June, particularly‍ with the ⁢anticipated opening of the municipal aquatic park.
