Santiago’s National Zoo Reopens with Free Admission

Santiago’s Metropolitan Park Zoo has reopened to the public with a new initiative aimed at encouraging family visits: free admission for all visitors. The reopening re-establishes the zoo as a recreational and educational alternative for those seeking outdoor activities within the capital city.

The move is designed to revitalize attendance at the zoo and promote engagement with the biodiversity housed within the park, while maintaining control measures to ensure a positive visitor experience.

Daily Capacity and Reservations

Access to the zoo is limited to a maximum of 4,000 people per day. Due to this restriction, visitors are strongly encouraged to secure their entry in advance through a prior reservation, particularly to avoid queues or delays at the Pío Nono access point.

How to Obtain Free Tickets

To access the zoo without charge, visitors must visit the official website of the Metropolitan Park Zoo, complete the personal details of themselves and any accompanying individuals, select their desired visit date, and finalize the process by selecting the “I’m not a robot” option and then “Get your ticket.”

Once the process is complete, the system will generate a code that must be presented at the ticket booths before entering the zoo. This procedure can also be carried out in person, with assistance from authorized staff on site.

Zoo Hours and Restrictions

The reservation system is available from Tuesday to Sunday, between the hours of 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The zoo remains closed on Mondays for maintenance work.

Zoo administrators remind visitors that pets are not permitted inside the grounds, and access by motorized vehicles is also prohibited, as part of the park’s operating regulations.

The reopening, which took place on January 28, 2026, follows extensive improvement works designed to modernize facilities and enhance animal welfare. The zoo is now home to over 700 animals, including both native Chilean species and wildlife from around the world. Improved pathways, upgraded enclosures, and educational signage aim to make visits more comfortable and informative.
