Match Report
First Half
Santos started the match pressing Cruzeiro from the opening minutes. Though, the Minas Gerais team balanced the play and began to create chances, but were thwarted by the Santos defense. Both teams accumulated opportunities throughout the first half.
One of Santos’ best chances came in the 39th minute, when Pedro Assis failed to capitalize on a cross from JP Chermont, with the ball narrowly missing the post.
Second Half
In the second half, Rayan opened the scoring for Cruzeiro in the first minute. the forward combined with a teammate and than finished strongly into the back of the net. In the 13th minute, captain Fernando extended the lead with a sliding finish after a cross from Rayan.
Three minutes later, Santos almost pulled one back, but Pedro Assis’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Victor. Santos’ goal came in the 38th minute, when João Alencar rose highest to head home from a set-piece.
In stoppage time, Pietro sealed the victory for Cruzeiro in the 58th minute, capitalizing on a loose ball inside the area and firing it into the net.
