On February 6, 2024, 26-year-old Emily Lockley tragically passed away from a pulmonary aneurysm at Royal Stoke University Hospital after her waters broke at full term on her birthday, stokesentinel.co.uk reported. Now, close friends Sarah Morey, Kelly Simms, and Elizabeth Blakemore are preparing to run the Potters ‘Arf on Sunday, October 4, to honor her memory and raise funds for the Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank, a cause close to her heart.
Honoring Emily Lockley Through the Potters Arf
Sarah Morey, 51, was named as the godmother to Emily’s newborn child, Harley, shortly before the tragedy occurred. Harley survived the emergency and is now being raised by his father, Tyler Collinson, alongside Emily’s family. In an interview with stokesentinel.co.uk, Morey described her close friend as an amazing young woman who was deeply family-oriented and had always dreamed of being a mother.
Emily previously completed the 13-mile race in 2021 to support the local food bank. Seeing her dedication inspired Morey, along with Kelly Simms and Elizabeth Blakemore, to take up running and commit to this year’s event in her honor.

Stoke on Trent Foodbank Fundraiser Details
The trio will tackle the course on October 4, acknowledging that the route features very steep hills. Despite feeling nervous about the physical challenge, the runners have practiced the route and received strong encouragement from Emily’s family and the local community.
The group has already collected more than £400 through a JustGiving page to support the Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank. Morey told stokesentinel.co.uk that the team hopes to continue supporting causes Emily was passionate about and aims to participate in future charity events.
We’re a little bit nervous about taking on the Potters ‘Arf. It’s a very steep route! When Emily did it, she described it as a 13-mile run with a ‘couple of little hills’. I think she was a lot braver than us. But we have been training and we have practiced the route and now we’re excited to get it done.
