Sarah Sjöström Announces Pregnancy, Eyes 2028 Olympics Return

Swedish swimmer Sarah Sjöström, 32, announced in February 2024 that she is expecting her first child. This news came just over a year after she secured double Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics (Olympics.com).
Sjöström shared that the pregnancy was challenging,requiring intravenous fluids due to severe dehydration. Despite these difficulties,she and her partner are “endlessly grateful” for their healthy baby.
Return to Competition: 2028 Los Angeles Olympics as the Goal

She acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the path back to competition, recognizing that her body and the needs of her baby will dictate the timeline. Though, Sjöström expressed her love for swimming and eagerness to embrace the challenge. “Really what the road there will look like is obviously difficult to say, the body and baby can control it, but I love swimming and look forward to that challenge,” she told Dagens Nyheter.
Upcoming Championships and Timeline
Sjöström may return to championship-level competition at the European Long Course Championships in Paris in August 2025. This would mark her first major event as a mother.
