Saudi Arabian Embassy Partners with NIGCOMSAT to Host TV Channels on NigComSat-1R Satellite
The Saudi Arabian Embassy in Nigeria has initiated discussions with the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) to host four TV channels on the NigComSat-1R satellite, according to a statement from Aisha Bantam, head of corporate affairs.
A recent visit to the NIGCOMSAT ground control station saw Saudi Arabia’s Media Officer, Mohammed Al-Sahabi, warmly welcomed by Engineer Abiodun Attah, Executive Director of Technical Services, who represented Madam Jane Egerton-Idehen, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer.
The meeting marked a significant development in strengthening media cooperation and expanding broadcasting capabilities through advanced satellite technology between the two nations.
The proposal to host four TV channels on NigComSat-1R is expected to strengthen cultural ties between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria while providing easier access to diverse content for audiences in Nigeria and beyond.
During the discussion, Mr. Al-Sahabi expressed the Embassy of Saudi Arabia’s eagerness to leverage NIGCOMSAT’s state-of-the-art satellite infrastructure to deliver high-quality programming, promoting cultural exchange and providing valuable information to the audience.
He highlighted the significant historical connection between the people of Saudi Arabia and Nigeria, culturally, religiously, and in many other aspects. “Unfortunately, Saudi Arabia is mainly known for the Hajj,” Al-Sahabi said.
Ms. Jane Egerton-Idehen emphasized NIGCOMSAT’s commitment to fostering partnerships that enhance communications and connectivity across Africa. She noted that hosting international channels on NigComSat-1R is in line with NIGCOMSAT’s vision to become the leading satellite service provider in the region.
This collaboration is expected to not only benefit the broadcasting environment but also contribute to the economic growth of the Nigerian media sector. By leveraging NigComSat-1R, Saudi Arabian channels will have access to a robust platform that ensures stable transmission and wide coverage.
Both parties agreed to continue discussions to finalize the technical and operational aspects of the partnership, with the aim of launching the channel in the near future.
This initiative represents a significant step towards strengthening media diversity and accessibility in Nigeria and paves the way for greater international collaboration in the telecommunications sector.
