Saudi Arabia Streamlines Exit and Re-Entry Visa Process with New Digital Platform

Thousands of residents in Saudi Arabia are breathing a sigh of relief following the announcement of a revolutionary new service by the General Directorate of Passports. The service eliminates decades of bureaucratic complexities by enabling the electronic extension of exit and re-entry visas without requiring individuals to be physically present anywhere in the world.

This technological advancement allows residents currently outside the Kingdom to renew their documents with a single click, resolving the long-standing issue of visa expiration during vacations or emergency situations that have historically caused distress to families.

The new system operates through an advanced network linking the Absher and Muqeem platforms with the SADAD banking system. Employers or family heads simply need to settle the required fees for the request to be processed immediately and the database updated in real-time.

This digital leap forward is part of the Ministry of Interior’s efforts to achieve 100% digitization of government services, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which prioritizes beneficiary satisfaction.

In a separate announcement, the Directorate has also cautioned citizens intending to travel to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to ensure their national identity cards are valid for at least three months beyond their planned travel date, to avoid any issues at border crossings.

According to information released by Jawazat on the X platform, the online service specifically facilitates the electronic extension of exit and re-entry visas for domestic workers and family companions who are currently outside the Kingdom. This addresses a common inquiry regarding the possibility of extending visas after expiration, confirming that extensions are possible as long as the individual remains registered under their sponsor’s record.

The process for domestic workers involves logging into the Absher platform, selecting Labor Services, then Visas. For family members, users log into Absher, choose Family Member Services, then Visas. The Absher platform is the primary means of accessing these services.

It’s important to note that if a visa duration is specified in months – 60, 90, or 120 days – it remains valid for three months of travel from the date of issuance, as clarified by Jawazat. This detail is crucial for travelers planning their return to Saudi Arabia.

The availability of this online renewal service via Absher and Muqeem, coupled with payment through SADAD, represents a significant improvement in convenience and efficiency for residents and their families.
