The Saudi Civil Defense has announced that danger has passed in Riyadh and the governorates of Al-Khobar and Yanbu, according to reporting from Ajel.
In the Eastern Province, where Al-Khobar is located, Jihat News reported that the Civil Defense declared the end of the risk and implemented a total ban on photography in the area.
These announcements follow a series of alerts issued across the regions. Sabq reported that the Civil Defense had previously issued an early warning for the Eastern Province, urging residents to follow preventive instructions. Similarly, Al-Yaum reported that the Civil Defense launched early warnings specifically for the Yanbu governorate.
During the period of alert, the Civil Defense issued warnings against the spread of misinformation. Sada Electronic reported that authorities cautioned the public to avoid rumors and refrain from sharing unknown video clips.
National Early Warning Infrastructure
The warnings were disseminated through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergency Situations, a system designed to transmit urgent alerts directly to mobile phones. On March 9, 2026, the Saudi Civil Defense announced a testing phase for the platform to evaluate the readiness and effectiveness of the national alert system.

The platform is intended to provide residents with instant updates during public safety situations, natural disasters, or severe weather events to ensure safety information is delivered swiftly and clearly.
Alongside the system’s implementation, the Civil Defense shared guidelines for residents to follow upon receiving an actual emergency alert. The instructions include staying calm and adhering to official directives.
In most cases, people are advised to go indoors to the nearest safe place away from windows and open areas and remain there until the danger has passed. Residents are also advised to refrain from gathering in open spaces, balconies, or rooftops during emergencies.

The current alert system integrates mobile notifications with fixed sirens. This coordinated approach was previously evaluated during a nationwide test on November 4, 2025. That exercise involved the activation of fixed sirens in Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, and Tabuk to verify the synchronization of multiple communication systems across both densely populated and remote areas.
