Joint Ministerial Contact Group Meeting in Madrid
Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the meeting of the Joint Ministerial Contact Group of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in Madrid, Spain.
Joint Statement
We, the representatives of the Joint Ministerial Contact Group, gathered in Madrid to reaffirm our commitment to a two-state solution as the only way to achieve lasting peace and security in the Middle East.
We condemn all forms of violence and terrorism and call for the credible and irrevocable implementation of a two-state solution in accordance with agreed standards, including international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Key Demands
- End the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, which began in 1967.
- Achieve a living reality of two independent and sovereign states, Israel and Palestine, on the basis of peace and security, mutual recognition, and effective cooperation.
- Enable the Palestinian Government to fulfill all its responsibilities in the entire Gaza Strip and West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
- Support the ongoing mediation efforts undertaken by the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar, and the United States.
- Reject all actions aimed at obstructing this mediation.
Humanitarian Assistance
We call for immediate, unconditional, and unrestricted humanitarian assistance on a large scale by opening all Israeli crossings and supporting the work of UNRWA and other UN agencies.
International Community’s Role
We emphasize the need for the international community to take active steps to implement a two-state solution, including comprehensive recognition and recognition of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.
Next Steps
We call on the parties and all members of the United Nations to attend a broader meeting on the “situation in Gaza and the implementation of the two-state solution as a path to achieving a just and comprehensive peace” on the sidelines of the next session of the UN General Assembly on September 26, 2024.
