Search Intensifies for Missing ‘Today’ Show Host’s Mother
The search for Nancy Guthrie, 84-year-old mother of “Today” show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, entered its fifth day today, . Authorities continue to investigate her disappearance from her home outside Tucson, Arizona, as a possible abduction.
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings made an emotional plea for their mother’s safe return on Wednesday, posting a video message on Instagram. “Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere,” Guthrie said. “We will not rest. Your children will not rest until we are together again.”
Guthrie emphasized her mother’s fragile health, stating, “Our mom is our heart and our home. She is 84 years old, her health, her heart is fragile. She lives in constant pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive. She needs it not to suffer.”
Nancy Guthrie was last seen around 9:45 p.m. On Saturday, February 1, when family members dropped her off at her home. She was reported missing on Sunday afternoon after failing to appear at church.
Ransom Notes Under Investigation
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is investigating reports of ransom notes sent to three news outlets, including ABC Tucson affiliate KGUN. Officials are working to determine the legitimacy of the notes, with at least one reportedly containing information only the abductor would know. NBC News has not independently verified the contents of the notes.

Sheriff Chris Nanos addressed the public today, , expressing empathy for the Guthrie family. “The family, you know, they just hurt,” Nanos said. “Understandably so, and so I really want you to know this entire team here — those behind me and our community — are hurting with you. We really just want mom back.”
