RTX Corporation reported a 12% year-over-year increase in first-quarter 2026 revenue, driven by strong demand across its aerospace and defense segments, the company announced on April 18, 2026.

The Waltham, Massachusetts-based conglomerate posted $19.8 billion in revenue for the quarter ended March 31, 2026, up from $17.7 billion in the same period of 2025, according to its earnings release filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Adjusted earnings per share rose to $2.85 from $2.41 a year earlier.

Revenue growth was primarily fueled by a 15% increase in commercial aerospace sales, which reached $7.2 billion, as airlines continued to restore pre-pandemic flight schedules and invest in newer, more fuel-efficient aircraft. Pratt & Whitney, RTX’s engine division, reported a 10% rise in spare parts and maintenance revenue, reflecting higher flight hour utilization across global fleets.

Defense systems revenue grew 9% to $8.1 billion, supported by sustained U.S. Department of Defense spending on missile defense, radar systems, and advanced avionics. RTX highlighted increased orders for its Patriot missile defense system and Joint Strike Fighter radar upgrades as key contributors.

Collins Aerospace, the company’s avionics and interior systems segment, saw revenue rise 8% to $4.5 billion, driven by demand for cabin management systems, flight controls, and connected aircraft solutions. The segment benefited from retrofit programs on narrow-body aircraft and new installations on wide-body platforms.

RTX CEO Gregory Hayes said in a prepared statement that the company is “scaling up production capacity to meet accelerating customer demand while maintaining disciplined cost controls.” He cited ongoing investments in automation and supply chain resilience as critical to sustaining output growth.

The company raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $82.5 billion from $80.0 billion, reflecting stronger-than-expected first-quarter performance and continued momentum in both commercial and defense markets. Adjusted EPS guidance was increased to $11.20 from $10.70.

RTX returned $1.6 billion to shareholders in the quarter through dividends and share repurchases, maintaining its commitment to returning at least 50% of free cash flow to investors. Free cash flow for the quarter was $2.1 billion, up 18% year-over-year.

Analysts at JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America cited RTX’s balanced exposure to cyclical aerospace recovery and steady defense spending as a key factor in maintaining overweight ratings on the stock. Both firms noted the company’s ability to leverage aftermarket services as a buffer against volatility in new aircraft deliveries.

RTX shares traded up 1.4% in after-hours trading following the earnings release, closing the regular session at $112.30 on April 17, 2026. The stock has gained approximately 18% year-to-date, outperforming the S&P 500 aerospace and defense index.
