Credit Card Cloning: A Transgender YouTuber’s Shocking Experience

A transgender YouTuber, Pungja, recently shared his experience of being a victim of credit card cloning while traveling abroad.

On his YouTube channel, Pungja revealed that he was camping in ⁢Thailand three to four months ago⁢ when he received a text message stating that a 1,000⁤ won ‍charge was ⁢made to his phone and then⁢ canceled two‍ weeks later.

He continued to receive small charges of 300 won and 2,000 won, which were also canceled. Pungja initially thought‌ that his payment in Thailand had been canceled, but after another payment of 20,000 won was made⁢ and then canceled, he decided to block overseas payments at his bank.

After ⁢releasing the account to make an overseas payment, Pungja experienced another 20,000 won payment, which was‌ not canceled this time. The bank immediately contacted ⁢him and blocked the transaction, revealing that his card had been cloned.

Pungja stated that he didn’t know whether his card was copied overseas or in Korea, but he knew that it could be copied not only by swiping the card but also when entering the card number online. He decided to‌ reissue the card to solve the‍ problem.

Pungja emphasized the importance of being careful with credit card payments when traveling abroad, as this experience could happen to anyone. He also mentioned that he was ‌embarrassed to have experienced something ‌he only ⁤saw on the news.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service, applying for the overseas use peace of mind service before leaving‍ the country can prevent⁤ large-sum fraudulent payments overseas. By setting ⁢the country⁣ of card‌ use, daily usage amount, and usage period, individuals can minimize the risk of credit card cloning.

Additionally, agreeing to use overseas entry/exit information can block offline overseas payments if there is no departure record or after entry has been ‌confirmed. ‍In the event of an accident, immediately requesting suspension or reissue of the‍ card to the card company can prevent further damage.
