Pokémon TCG: ‘Black Lightning’ and ‘White Flame’ Expansion Announced

The Pokémon Company International announced a new two-part expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), titled Scarlet & Violet—black Lightning and Scarlet & Violet—White Flame. The sets are scheduled to launch on July 18, 2025, at participating retailers.

Unys Region Pokémon Featured

The upcoming expansion will spotlight⁣ the ⁤156 Pokémon originally discovered in the Unys‍ region.These ‍Pokémon will‍ be divided⁣ between the Black Lightning and White Flame sets. According to the‍ Pokémon Company, each Unys Pokémon will be featured as a “rare illustration” or “rare ⁢special illustration” card within associated products of each set.

Legendary Pokémon Take Center Stage

Scarlet & Violet—Black Lightning will highlight the Legendary Pokémon Zekrom, while Scarlet & Violet—White Flame will feature Reshiram. Each expansion will include three different shining parallel sets, two ⁤of which will‍ showcase a rainbow Poké Ball or Master ‍Ball symbol.

Players can also anticipate ⁤the ⁤return of characteristics last seen in the Black & White series, including cards with a brilliant⁤ pattern reminiscent of the past and basic Energy cards with the original design from the Black & ‍White era.

Key Cards and Variants

Notable cards within the Black Lightning and White Flame expansions will include:

• Six⁢ Pokémon-ex cards
• Eight Pokémon‍ and⁤ “Ultra Rare” supporter cards
• One “Rare illustration” or “Rare special illustration” card for each ⁣Pokémon of ⁣Unys
• One “Rare special illustration” Supporter⁣ card

Furthermore, Scarlet & violet—Black Lightning and Scarlet‍ & Violet—White Flame will introduce ‍”rare white black” cards, presenting card illustrations in a monochrome‍ black and white design.
