The new Scary Movie has entered the box office with $7.5 million in Thursday night previews on June 4, 2026. According to reporting from Deadline, these figures are near the levels seen by Scream 7.

The film, described by Empire Online as a requel from the Wayans brothers, attempts to revitalize the horror spoof genre. While the preview numbers show initial interest, early critical reception has been largely negative.

In a review for The Guardian, the publication suggested that while the spoof comedy has returned, maybe it should have stayed in the 2000s.

Similarly, Empire Online noted that the Wayans brothers’ latest effort isn’t exactly a Scream. IndieWire was more critical of the production’s impact at Paramount, stating that not even the Wayans can make horror satire great again.

Beyond the box office performance and critical reviews, The Hollywood Reporter revealed details regarding the film’s casting and content. Jordan Peele reportedly turned down a role in the new Scary Movie.

Despite Peele’s decision not to appear in the film, the movie still includes a spoof of his work, specifically featuring a parody of Get Out.

Other activity in the Thursday night box office included Masters of the Universe, which earned $4 million in previews on June 4, 2026.
