Jonny hill’s Emotional Tribute on “Schlager fun with Andy Borg”
OFFENBURG, Germany – A recent episode of “Schlager fun with andy Borg” took an unexpectedly poignant turn when veteran singer Jonny Hill debuted a new song with a deeply personal connection.
The program, which aired Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, featured Hill, 84, as a guest. During a conversation with host Andy Borg, 63, Hill shared the story behind his latest single, a touching tribute to a longtime friend battling Alzheimer’s disease.
Hill Dedicates Song to Friend with Alzheimer’s
Hill’s new single, “provided that He Still Knows Who I Am,” is dedicated to a friend with whom he shared critically important milestones early in his career. “I had a friend,my oldest friend, with whom I made my first record, wrote my first songs, and created radio programs,” Hill explained. He revealed that his friend had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s about two years prior.
The emotional weight of the situation became clear as Hill recounted a recent visit. “During his last visit, he didn’t recognize me anymore,” Hill said, his voice thick with emotion. “it grabbed me so much… I sat down and wrote this text.”
Hill hopes the song will bring attention to alzheimer’s disease, a condition he describes as “sadly not curable.”

A Performance Filled with Emotion
Hill’s performance of the song visibly moved both the audience and Borg. The singer himself struggled to maintain composure, pausing between verses, shaking his head, and fighting back tears. Following the performance, he bowed, offering a sad smile to the captivated audience.
The song serves not only as a means to raise awareness and offer comfort but also as “a little monument” to his friend, Hill said.

“Schlager fun with Andy Borg” is also scheduled to air on BR this fall.
