A Riverside County deputy has been reassigned following allegations that he used excessive force against a female student in Moreno Valley.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, which occurred on May 12, 2026. The deputy involved served as a school resource officer.

According to Deirdre Vickers, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, a school resource deputy was alerted to a fight between two students just off a school campus at 3:47 p.m. On May 12.

Video of the encounter was posted online by Instagram user Crowntownactivity. The footage shows the school resource officer forcibly pushing and yanking a female student. The officer was attempting to restrain the student, who pulled away during the encounter.

The location of the incident has been a point of varying reports. Sheriff’s officials stated the encounter took place less than a block away from a Moreno Valley high school campus. However, the Instagram account that shared the video claimed the incident occurred less than a mile from Vista del Lago High School.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed the specific location of the incident.

The deputy has been reassigned from his post pending the outcome of the use-of-force investigation.
