Supporting Students in Rural Areas: The “And Student, Notebook” Initiative

A ceremony will be held on September 17, 2024, in Konda-Anyuzock Heads, under the supervision of Jean Patrice AKAM AKAM, with the vice-president of the Regional Council of the South, Éric Gervais NDO, as the sponsor of the event.

The “And Student, Notebook” Operation

This initiative aims to alleviate the stress of returning to school for parents of students in villages such as Endo’o, In the coal mine-Anyuzock, and Mvila, which have a large population of almost 1000 students.

Sam Sévérin ANGO’s Vision

Sam Sévérin ANGO, the originator of the initiative, shared his intentions and motivations with us:

“There are no ulterior motives, this is my home and my path. A few years ago I brought teaching and computer equipment to school. This time I won’t be alone. Some of my elders and brothers will go with me. It was like that before and it always will be. For me, I can only say thank you very much to them!”

The Challenges of Education in Rural Areas

The villages of Endo’o, In the coal mine-Anyuzock, and Mvila have ten primary schools, a CES, and L’Eniet of Ebolowa. However, due to the economic recession, there is a risk of seeing the enrollment rate revised downwards.

“Some parents of students after selling the cocoa do not have trouble getting school supplies or enrolling their children in school, but for the majority of parents, this does not seem obvious, the stress, anxiety, and depression are present.”

Support from Local Authorities and Elites

Apart from the local population, the initiative has also received support from the elites and driving forces of the District of Ebolowa 1st. A press release notes the presence of Lt Ebolowa 1st BEGOUIN Foreman, as well as traditional authorities, in the ceremony held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 14h to the Principal of In the coal mine-Anyuzock.
