Scorsese: Cinema Bad Behaviour Ends Film Visits | Film
Martin Scorsese avoids theaters, blames bad cinema etiquette
Martin Scorsese, the acclaimed director, says he has stopped going to movie theaters because of increasingly poor audience behavior. Scorsese finds the distractions of talking and cell phone use unbearable, according to film critic Peter travers.
Travers, writng on his blog, The Travers Take, recounted Scorsese’s frustration with moviegoers. The director, known for films like “Raging bull,” feels audiences are too loud and inattentive, ruining the cinema experience. The rise of streaming services may have contributed to a decline in cinema etiquette.
travers joked that Scorsese, 82, likely behaved similarly when he was younger. Scorsese conceded that he might have been disruptive, but clarified that any talking was about the film itself.
The issue of declining cinema etiquette has become a hot topic. Some movie theaters have even experienced fights and food-throwing incidents. Despite this, stars like Tom Cruise continue to encourage audiences to support cinemas.
“I asked the maestro why he doesn’t see movies in theatres any more and he went all raging bull about audiences who babble on phones during the movie, leave to order snacks and vats of soda, and keep up a noise level loud enough to drown out the actors.”
What’s next
