Sean Lawson takes Head Coach Role at the Bears

Sean Lawson is the new head coach for the Bears, stepping into the role after Dave Ward’s four-year tenure concluded in April. The team is looking to Lawson’s leadership to build upon their recent successes.
Last season, the Bears reached their fourth consecutive PWR semi-final, finishing fourth overall. Though, thay were defeated by Gloucester-Hartpury in what became Ward’s final match. Ward also led the team to their first final in 2024, where they again fell to Gloucester-Hartpury.
Lawson expressed his commitment to hard work and a relentless pursuit of success for the club. He emphasized the aligned vision across the entire club as a key factor in his decision to join the Bears.
“From the moment I spoke wiht Daisie Mayes [general manager] and pat Lam [director of rugby] it was clear that the vision for the women’s program and the aligned approach across the whole club was something I really wanted to be a part of,” Lawson said.
lawson also acknowledged his gratitude for his time with Scottish Rugby. “I’ve loved my time with Scottish Rugby and will always be grateful for the experiences and relationships I’ve built there, which I’ll continue to value moving forward,” he stated.”But this was an exciting chance I simply couldn’t resist.”
The club has not revealed the length of Lawson’s contract.
Pat lam, director of rugby, cited Lawson’s extensive coaching and playing background, passion for the role, understanding of the club’s vision, and focus on player development as key factors in his selection. “His vast coaching and playing experience across a range of different environments and levels, together with his passion for the role, understanding of the club vision and focus on player development and winning impressed us during the interview process,” Lam said.
