Bashir Al-Deq: Thank you for having me. It has been a challenging time. I was diagnosed with severe pneumonia, which landed me in intensive care for several days. I’m relieved to say that I have since improved and returned home, where I’m focusing on my recovery.
NDT: It must have been a tough experience. How did it feel to share your health status with your fans on Nozoom FM?
Bashir Al-Deq: It was important for me to keep my fans updated. They’ve always shown immense support and care, and I wanted to reassure them that I’m doing better now and looking forward to returning full force.
NDT: You’ve been notably absent from the artistic scene lately. What can you tell us about the projects you had lined up, particularly “The Emperor”?
Bashir Al-Deq: Yes, “The Emperor” was a project I was particularly excited about, as it aimed to portray the extraordinary life of the late artist Ahmed Zaki, with Mohammad Ramadan in the lead role. Unfortunately, there were objections from Zaki’s family, which led to the project being cancelled. It was disappointing, but I respect their wishes and hope to work on something else that resonates with my vision.
NDT: Your last animated film, “The Knight and the Princess,” was well received, featuring a talented cast. What can we expect from you moving forward?
Bashir Al-Deq: I’m currently in the process of conceptualizing new ideas. My passion for storytelling remains strong, and I intend to explore different genres and themes that reflect contemporary issues while still captivating audiences. Collaborating with both new and familiar faces in the industry is something I look forward to.
NDT: You last worked on a dramatic series, “The Flood,” in 2017. How do you view the evolution of storytelling in the Arab cinema industry since then?
Bashir Al-Deq: The landscape has changed significantly. There’s an increasing appetite for diverse narratives and innovative storytelling techniques. Filmmakers are becoming bolder in their choices, which is exciting. I believe this trend will continue to grow, and I’m eager to contribute my take on the evolving narrative styles.
