Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald has put an end to speculation, confirming that Sam Darnold will be the team’s starting quarterback. Macdonald’s statement came after Darnold experienced mixed results during the team’s organized team activities (OTAs).
Macdonald addressed the quarterback situation in an interview, dismissing any possibility of another quarterback taking over the starting role barring injury. He emphasized the team’s confidence in Darnold as their primary quarterback.
Darnold’s performance during OTAs included both positive and negative plays. he threw two interceptions during a red-zone drill but also demonstrated success near the goal line in earlier drills. Macdonald acknowledged the mistakes but stressed the importance of allowing players to take risks and learn from them during the offseason.
The Seahawks signed Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million contract after trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders. The team also drafted Jalen Milroe and traded Sam Howell, creating a quarterback room that includes veteran backup Drew lock.
“No, you guys are crazy,” Macdonald said. “I respect that you’ve got to ask it, but it’s just a crazy question. It’s just not going to happen. Sam’s our starting quarterback. We love him. He’s doing a tremendous job.”
