About the Book:
Author Kelly Goto will discuss her new book that combines samurai principles with stories of honor and resilience. She will share insights from interviews and family narratives. Kelly’s mother, Dee Goto, will join her. Dee has dedicated her work to preserving Issei stories, which inspired this collection.
About the Cartoonist:
From 2012 to 2018, Sam Goto created over 250 comic strips called “Seattle Tomodachi” for The North American Post. His comics told stories of Issei and Nisei, expressing culture and history through characters like Shigeru Tomo and his alter ego Samurai Shigeru, who embody values such as courage and compassion.
Author Background:
Kelly Goto is an award-winning author and educator. She plays a vital role in the tech and Asian American communities, connecting historical insights with modern issues.
Dee Goto, a Sansei from Oregon and Idaho, holds a degree in psychosocial nursing. She emphasizes the importance of storytelling and Japanese cultural values.
