Seattle has been ranked as the seventh funniest city in the United States, according to a comedy scene study conducted by TicketSource. The ranking is based on a comprehensive comedy score out of 10, which evaluates the strength and health of a city’s live comedy ecosystem.

To determine the rankings, TicketSource analyzed four specific categories: venue density, audience demand, the number of upcoming ticketed events, and the volume of comedians produced by the city. According to TicketSource, the strongest comedy scenes are typically characterized by a combination of plentiful venues, consistent events, and high demand.

Comedy Infrastructure and Demand

Seattle’s performance in the study was bolstered by its high density of comedy spaces. The city offers 8.8 comedy clubs and venues per 100,000 people, a figure that represents the sixth-highest density among the top 10 cities analyzed.

Audience interest also remains strong in the region. Data collected between January and March 2026 showed more than 116,000 comedy-related searches per 100,000 people in Seattle.

In terms of active programming, Seattle recorded 14.2 ticketed comedy events per 100,000 people so far in 2026. While this placed the city at number seven on the overall list, it trailed behind San Francisco, which held the top spot for ticketed events with 33.2 per 100,000 people.

Local Talent and Influence

The city’s ranking was further supported by its history of producing professional comedic talent. The study identified 12 notable comedians born in Seattle, including Dustin Nickerson and Adam Ray.

Local Talent and Influence

While Seattle has a significant presence of local talent, it was outperformed in this specific category by Chicago, which ranked tenth overall but led the nation with 82 Chicago-born comedians.

Industry Context and Venue Developments

The high ranking comes despite recent volatility within the local venue landscape. This includes a controversy involving the banning of comedians over claims of hate speech, specifically involving comedians @abranchesluke and @wyattfeegrado.

the city has seen shifts in venue identity and ownership. The venue formerly known as Comedy/Bar, which had been a source of national controversy, has transitioned to the Emerald City Comedy Club. Owner Dane Hesseldahl initiated this change alongside renovations in an effort to help the club reach its full potential.
