UEMOA’s Commitment to Peace and Security in the Region
The West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace and security in the region. This was highlighted during an information session on the union’s projects and activities, which brought together journalists from eight member countries.
Anselme Somé, a security expert at UEMOA, presented the union’s achievements in promoting peace and security in the region. He noted that UEMOA has provided significant financial support to member countries, including Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, in their fight against terrorism.
Somé emphasized that UEMOA’s commitment to peace and security is crucial for the development and prosperity of the region. He noted that the union has implemented various initiatives to promote peace and security, including the creation of a regional security fund, the organization of consultations on peace, security, and development, and the strengthening of collaboration between security and intelligence services.
Despite the challenges posed by terrorism, UEMOA remains committed to promoting peace and security in the region. The union has drawn up forecasts to accelerate the implementation of the Monitoring and Early Warning Mechanism (MeVap), strengthen the capacity of the FDS and the National Arms Control Commission, and explore future partnerships with international organizations.
