A Bold Restomod Vision
at the 2023 SEMA show in Las Vegas, CTEK and Rufian showcased a truly remarkable vehicle: a heavily modified 1935 Plymouth dubbed “GT-1.” This isn’t a simple restoration; itS a complete reimagining, blending classic aesthetics with modern, high-performance engineering. The project demonstrates the growing trend of restomods – classic cars updated with contemporary components – and pushes the boundaries of what’s possible.
The Heart of the Beast: A 9.0-Liter Viper V10
The most significant modification is undoubtedly the engine. The original Plymouth powerplant has been replaced with a massive 9.0-liter V10 engine sourced from a Dodge Viper. This engine, known for its robust power and distinctive sound, delivers a substantial performance upgrade. The swap required extensive fabrication and engineering to integrate the modern engine into the vintage chassis.
While specific horsepower figures weren’t immediately released, a Viper V10 of this displacement typically produces over 600 horsepower. This power is managed through a six-speed manual transmission, offering a driver-focused experience.
Exterior and Interior Transformations
The exterior retains the iconic lines of the 1935 Plymouth but features several custom touches. the body was modified to accommodate the wider track and larger wheels. A custom paint scheme, along with modern lighting, further enhances the vehicle’s appearance. The car rides on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels.
Inside, the GT-1 boasts a luxurious and modern interior. Custom leather upholstery, updated gauges, and a modern sound system create a cozy and technologically advanced cabin. The interior design seamlessly blends vintage styling with contemporary amenities.
Engineering Challenges and Collaboration
The project was a collaborative effort between CTEK, a swedish brand specializing in battery charging solutions, and Rufian, a custom fabrication shop. Integrating the Viper V10 into the 1935 Plymouth chassis presented significant engineering challenges, requiring custom mounts, cooling systems, and exhaust components. The team also addressed the necessary upgrades to the suspension and braking systems to handle the increased power.
CTEK’s involvement extended beyond sponsorship; their charging systems were integrated to support the vehicle’s electrical demands. The project highlights the synergy between automotive technology and classic car restoration.
