Senegal on Brink of Crisis: PM Issues Shocking Ultimatum to Dissolve National Assembly
Senegal’s Prime Minister Announces Dissolution of Opposition-Dominated National Assembly
Senegal’s Prime Minister, Osman Sonko, has vowed to dissolve the opposition-dominated National Assembly in the coming days.
The Prime Minister’s statement comes amidst a petition of censure by the “Bino Bouk Yakar” team, the former ruling coalition that holds a majority in the National Assembly elected in 2022.
In a video clip posted on social media, Sonko stated, “I can assure you that there will be no censure petition on the horizon on September 12, and on that date, these people will have something else to do apart from being representatives.” He emphasized that dozens of people need to be held accountable.
Sonko added, “The discussion about linking responsibility with accountability will begin now, and this week in particular.” He noted that dozens of people will have to provide an account in the coming days.
The Prime Minister revealed that authorities have already prevented some individuals from leaving the country.
The petition is part of the escalating conflict between the majority coalition in the National Assembly and the current government of Senegal.
