Graz Senior Citizens’ Office to Close Temporarily for Staff Retreat
The Senior Citizens’ Office (Senior:innenbüro) of the city of Graz will be closed on Tuesday, , for a staff retreat. During this time, in-person appointments and telephone inquiries will not be available, according to a notice released by the city.
Regular services will resume on Wednesday, .
The Senior Citizens’ Office serves as a central point of contact for older adults in Graz, offering counseling, information, courses, workshops, and a volunteer program involving approximately 30 active volunteers. It was established in 1996 as Austria’s first Senior Citizens’ Office.
The office provides information on a range of topics relevant to seniors, including safety, events, excursions, and the SeniorInnencard. Services include a taxicost subsidy for those with limited mobility, a cultural pass, a midday meal program, and assistance with meal delivery services.
The office also supports volunteer engagement and provides information on digital inclusion, offering free “Digicafes” at various locations to help seniors improve their digital skills.

Norbert Dornig serves as the head of the Senior Citizens’ Office. The office operates under the authority of the Graz Social Welfare Department (Sozialamt).
The city of Graz has been actively working to become more age-friendly, focusing on areas such as housing, mobility, public spaces, health and prevention, social participation, communication, and respect and inclusion. Initiatives include support for assisted living and shared housing for seniors, improvements to barrier-free infrastructure, and efforts to combat discrimination and promote intergenerational projects.
As part of the ‘We ALL – Age-Friendly and Worth Living’ project, an assessment of the city’s age-friendliness was conducted in 2025, leading to the development and improvement of various measures and services.
