It became clear early on that there would be a duel between Norway and France in the men’s relay. Already after Johannes Skjevdal-Dale’s first stage, the two nations had more than half a minute down to the next team.

After Johan-Olav Botn’s stage, the distance down from France and Norway to third place Italy had increased to well over a minute.

On the third leg, Sturla Holm Lægreid clinched, and the 28-year-old gained a slot for French Quentin Fillot Maillet in for prone shooting. There, the Norwegian shot five straight down.

– It’s class, stated TV 2 commentator Marius Skjelbæk.

Fillot Maillet had to use one extra shot, and with that the Norwegian boys suddenly had a gap of 20 seconds to the French.

With one extra shot on standing, and a higher pace than Fillon Maillet on the course, Holm Lægreid could switch with Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen a full 53 seconds ahead of France.

– I was focused on not leaving, but let him do the work. So I lay behind him and just enjoyed myself. When he pulls to the side and is tired, I move. When I see that I’m gaining meters, I get more motivated. A quick series without extra shots on the lay-up, then it’s checkmate against Quentin. Then I think he was mentally put out of action, says Lægreid to TV 2 after the stage.

When Sjåstad Christiansen shot a full house both lying down and standing up, there was no doubt where the victory would go. After the last shooting, he turned and greeted the audience.

– This is how you solve a final stage for Norway, concluded Skjelbæk.

– We have done a fantastic relay, he followed up.

In total, the Norwegian boys used only three extra shots, and won by 43.1 seconds ahead of France and just over a minute ahead of Sweden.
