SEP School Calendar 2026-2027: Start Dates, Holidays, and Vacations

According to official documentation published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación and reported by outlets including Revista Merca2.0 and Calendarios Nacionales, the State of Mexico’s educational authorities have finalized the 2026–2027 school calendar for public and private schools under the Subsistema Educativo Estatal, establishing an August 31, 2026, start date for basic education students across preschool, primary, and secondary levels.

The upcoming academic schedule applies directly to preschool, primary, and secondary institutions, as well as normal schools across the state. Students will return to classrooms on Monday, August 31, 2026, and the school year will conclude on Friday, July 9, 2027, according to the Secretaría de Educación del Estado de México.

Instructional Days and School Calendars

State schools will operate under two distinct schedules depending on the educational tier. Basic education institutions will complete 185 effective days of class, which matches the minimum threshold established by the Ley General de Educación. Meanwhile, normal schools and institutions dedicated to teacher training are scheduled for 190 effective instructional days to accommodate specialized academic programs.

Teachers will report to schools ahead of the student body. The intensive teacher training phase is scheduled from August 24 through August 28, 2026, giving educators a five-day preparation window prior to the arrival of students.

Vacation Periods and Official Suspensions

The calendar outlines several mandatory rest periods and suspension dates throughout the academic year. Winter break runs from December 21, 2026, through January 5, 2027, with students returning to classrooms following the holiday interval. A secondary rest period is scheduled from February 8 to February 19, 2027. Spring break, aligned with Semana Santa, is marked from March 22 to April 2, 2027, according to Revista Merca2.0.

Official suspensions of teaching activities include September 16, November 2, and November 16, 2026. Additional suspension dates for the 2027 portion of the calendar feature February 1, March 15, and May 5, 2027. Administrative windows, such as grade-reporting periods like November 13, 2026, are also integrated into the operational schedule.

Consejo Técnico Escolar and First Bridge

The schedule incorporates nine ordinary sessions of the Consejo Técnico Escolar distributed across the academic year. These monthly meetings provide professional development for educators while resulting in designated days off for students.

The initial long weekend of the school year will occur on Friday, September 25, 2026, coinciding with the first ordinary session of the Consejo Técnico Escolar. While teachers participate in scheduled meetings, students will enjoy a day without classes, marking the first official break following the start of the term. Subsequent CTE sessions and suspension dates will provide further pauses in routine instruction as the calendar progresses toward its July 2027 conclusion.
