SEPULTURA’s Andreas Kisser Critiques Cavalera Brothers’ Re-Recordings and Teases New Music
Andreas Kisser on Cavalera Brothers’ Re-recordings
Andreas Kisser, the guitarist for SEPULTURA, shared his views on Max and Igor Cavalera’s decision to re-record their early albums, “Morbid Visions,” “Bestial Devastation,” and “Schizophrenia.” In an interview with IMPACT Metal Channel, he expressed skepticism about the artistic value of this choice, stating, “I think artistic value is zero.” Kisser suggested that the move might be financially motivated and called it unnecessary and disrespectful to their past work.
He elaborated on his thoughts, saying it feels contradictory for Max, who often claims sole credit for his creative achievements, to revisit previous riffs from decades ago. “It doesn’t click,” Kisser remarked.
New Music from SEPULTURA
Despite the ongoing farewell tour, Kisser confirmed that SEPULTURA is working on new music. He praised the band’s new drummer, Greyson Nekrutman, highlighting their strong chemistry. The band plans to release a collection featuring 40 live songs and four new tracks recorded during their tour.
Kisser teased fans about what to expect from the new music, saying, “The unexpectable. Wait and see.”
Cavalera’s Reflection on Re-recordings
Max Cavalera explained the reasoning behind re-recording the early albums. He noted that the original recordings did not capture the sound they wanted. Max stated, “It would be cool to have this sound on these old records that sound like shit.” His aim was to create a more aggressive and live-sounding recording while preserving the essence of the original songs.
Background on SEPULTURA and Its Members
SEPULTURA had a turbulent history, especially after Max left the band in 1996. Igor remained for another decade, before reuniting with Max in CAVALERA CONSPIRACY. The new versions of “Morbid Visions,” “Bestial Devastation,” and “Schizophrenia” feature contributions from notable musicians, including Travis Stone on lead guitar.
SEPULTURA’s current lineup includes Kisser, vocalist Derrick Green, bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr., and Greyson Nekrutman.
In celebration of their 40th anniversary, SEPULTURA announced a global farewell tour.
