Midfielder to Conclude Career with Inter Miami
Sergio Busquets, a former key player for Barcelona and the Spanish national team, announced on Thursday night that he will retire at the end of the 2025 season while playing for Inter Miami of Major League Soccer (MLS).
Busquets stated,”These will be my last months on the field.”
Accomplished Career
The midfielder was a 2010 World Cup champion with Spain’s La Roja.Before joining Inter miami in 2023, following in the footsteps of Lionel Messi, Busquets secured nine Spanish La Liga titles and three Champions League titles with Barcelona.
“I feel that the time has come to say goodbye to my career as a professional footballer,” Busquets said. “It has been almost 20 years enjoying this incredible story that I always dreamed. Football has given me unique experiences in marvelous places with the best travel companions.”
Part of a Legendary Group
Busquets’s retirement proclamation is the first among a group of veteran players at Inter Miami, dubbed the “Fantastic Inter,” which also includes his compatriot Jordi Alba and Uruguayan Luis Suarez.All three players are between 36 and 38 years old.
These players joined Inter Miami after Messi’s arrival, hoping to contribute to the team’s success.
Pursuit of an MLS Title
The quartet of former Barcelona players will attempt to secure Inter Miami’s first MLS title this season. The MLS season concludes with a single-game final on December 6.
As of September 26, 2025, Inter Miami has five regular-season games remaining before the start of the playoffs on October 24.
