Maria Clara Lélis Cardoso, Epidemiological Surveillance Coordinator for the Municipal Health Secretariat of Montes claros, noted that the expanded SAE (Serviço de Atendimento Especializado – Specialized Care Service) of Montes Claros serves 86 municipalities in northern Minas Gerais. she underscored the critical role of collaboration with the State Department of Health in bolstering specialized care services.
The expanded SAE in Montes Claros plays a vital role in providing specialized healthcare to a large population. According to data from the Montes Claros Municipal Government, the city has a population of approximately 385,000, and serves as a regional hub for healthcare services.
Site visits and Future Steps
The meeting concluded with a technical visit to the expanded SAE team and a visit to the Montes Claros Regional Prison. This suggests a focus on addressing healthcare needs within correctional facilities as part of the broader chronic conditions strategy.
