Layda Sansores Denies Arrest of Senator Daniel Barreda and His Father

Mexico City, September 10 – A controversy has erupted in the Senate after Jorge Álvarez Máynez, former presidential candidate of The Citizen’s Movement (MC), reported the alleged arrest of Senator Daniel Barreda Puga’s father, Daniel Barreda Puga. However, Layda Sansores San Román, Governor of Campeche, has denied the allegations.

Álvarez Máynez shared on social media that Barreda Puga was detained by Layda Sansores’ government personnel in Campeche, which he described as “revenge” after Senator Barreda Pavón took a position against the Judicial Reform and reported threats against him.

🚨 WARNING 🚨 In order to take revenge for this post, the criminal government of Layda Sansores arrested the father of Senator Daniel Barreda this morning in Campeche.

They also arrested Paul Arce, the coordinator of our group in Campeche, at his children’s school.

Minutes later, tempers flared in the plenary session of the Senate, when Clemente Castañeda took the stand to deny that Senator Barreda and his father were detained, pointing out that both are victims of extortion.

Senator Adán Augusto López took the stand to ensure that Senator Barreda and his mother are not caught. “I know where they are, I spoke to him,” he said.

Layda Sansores San Román, Governor of Campeche, also came out to deny the allegations through her social networks.

Senator Daniel Barreda Puga has explained that he will vote against the Judicial Reform, after it was identified as one of the opposition parties that will vote against the decree.

“The one who has the most interest in getting reformed is me. In Campeche, for two and a half years, we have experienced political persecution. […] Of course reform is needed, but we have to read it, we have to study it. He does not vote against because some give it, nor vote in favor because others give it. “I want to tell you, after I have studied it, after reading it, that my vote is completely against,” he said.

Furthermore, he shared on social networks that he would not allow himself to be intimidated or pressured by any group in power, but that he made his decision out of conviction, and accused the Government of Layda Sansores of revenge and threats against him and his people.

I want to share my position on the Judicial Reform, as well as to denounce the abuse we have suffered in Campeche from the government of Layda Sansores.

MY VOTE IS AGAINST this amendment which threatens the impartiality of justice and violates human rights. pic.twitter.com/UmP7Sa2Lze
