Turkey is facing a period of severe and volatile weather, with meteorological authorities issuing widespread alerts for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and dust transport across multiple regions. As of April 3, 2026, yellow weather alerts have been implemented for 31 provinces to warn residents of the potential for significant disruptions and safety risks.

The warnings come as a cold front moves through the region, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and intense precipitation. In some areas, the weather system is bringing a combination of heavy rain and snowfall, with 48 provinces placed under yellow alerts in a broader regional pattern that also affects Greece.

Regional Weather Impacts and Forecasts

The General Directorate of Meteorology indicates that rainfall is expected nationwide, with the exception of the eastern Black Sea region and the eastern parts of Eastern Anatolia. Significant downpours and heavy rain are specifically forecast for southern Southeastern Anatolia and various coastal areas.

In Central Anatolia, the Mediterranean, the Western Black Sea, and the Aegean—excluding Manisa and İzmir—locally strong rainfall is predicted. Additional warnings have been issued for the surroundings of Çorum, Samsun, and Amasya, as well as the southern and eastern Marmara regions.

Temperature fluctuations are expected to vary by region. Western regions are forecasted to see a decrease in air temperatures by 5 to 7 degrees, while the Eastern Black Sea region may see an increase of 4 to 6 degrees.

Wind and Dust Warnings

Strong winds are expected to impact several parts of the country, with speeds predicted to reach between 50 and 80 km/h. These winds are expected to blow from southern directions in the Mediterranean, Central Anatolia, the southern and eastern Aegean, and the inner regions of the Eastern and Central Black Sea. The northern and western parts of Eastern Anatolia are expected to experience these strong winds, while the western Marmara will see winds coming from northern directions.

Wind and Dust Warnings

Beyond the wind and rain, the meteorological authority has issued warnings regarding dust transport. On April 3, 2026, reports indicated that red skies served as a signal for a dust storm moving across Türkiye.

Public Safety Precautions

Authorities and the Meteorology Department have urged citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate the risks associated with the severe weather. The primary concerns include:

  • Sudden floods and water accumulation in urban and rural areas.
  • Risks associated with lightning and the fall of small hail.
  • Potential disruptions in transportation and transit networks.
  • Physical dangers from roof blow-offs, as well as the collapse of poles and trees due to high wind speeds.
  • Risks of carbon monoxide poisoning resulting from the use of natural gas sources and stoves during the temperature drop.

The Ministry of Interior has coordinated with meteorological services to ensure that provinces under the yellow code alert are prepared for these conditions, particularly in major hubs such as Ankara and Istanbul, which have been noted as particularly affected by the incoming cold front.
