Metro Detroit is under monitoring for additional severe storms on April 15, 2026, following a series of overnight weather events that caused structural damage across Southeast Michigan.

Reports from ClickOnDetroit indicate that overnight storms left a path of damage in the region. In Ann Arbor, a wall collapsed at the Veterans Memorial Park Ice Arena and damage was reported at the University of Michigan’s Yost Ice Arena.

High temperatures on April 15, 2026, are expected to climb into the upper 70s. While FOX 2 Detroit reported that the immediate severe storm threat had subsided temporarily, meteorologists continue to monitor the area for further activity this afternoon.

According to WXYZ, strong to severe storms are possible after 8 p.m. On April 15, 2026. A separate forecast window for scattered thunderstorms was identified from 2 p.m. On April 15 to 2 a.m. On April 16, 2026.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Sanilac, Lapeer, and St. Clair counties, remaining in effect until 5 a.m.

Potential Hazards

Forecasters have warned of several significant weather hazards associated with the incoming systems. These include:

  • Wind gusts of 60 mph or greater
  • Hail measuring up to one inch in diameter
  • Isolated tornadoes
  • Flooding

The storms are expected to move from the southwest toward the northeast across Southeast Michigan.

WXYZ noted that warmer temperatures are expected to persist throughout the week, with highs remaining in the mid to upper 70s and lows in the low to mid 60s.
