Severe Turbulence Forces American Airlines Flight to Turn Back; Passenger Hospitalized
American Airlines Flight Returns Due to Severe Turbulence
A passenger was taken to the hospital after an American Airlines flight experienced severe turbulence.
The Boeing 777-200 operated flight 930 from Sao Paulo to Miami on November 25, 2024. Approximately two hours into the flight, the plane turned back. It landed safely back in Sao Paulo about two hours later. The flight had 12 crew members and 221 passengers, according to FlightRadar24.
One passenger suffered a leg fracture and was transported to a hospital in Brazil. Other passengers received assessments for minor injuries.
An airline spokesperson thanked the crew for their professionalism and the passengers for their understanding.
Severe turbulence has caused injuries in the past. In May 2024, a Singapore Airlines flight had one fatality due to extreme turbulence. While turbulence can be dangerous, deaths from turbulence remain uncommon.
