Seville Parks Close as Bird Deaths Rise; Avian Flu Investigation Underway
Seville residents are facing temporary closures of some of the cityS most beloved parks as authorities investigate a surge in bird deaths potentially linked to avian flu. The Jardines del Alcázar and Miraflores Park have been closed to the public as a precautionary measure, following similar issues at Tamarguillo Park and the María Luisa park.
The situation began escalating with dozens of geese found dead at Tamarguillo Park, with the total now reaching 71 as of Thursday. Further deaths were discovered in the lotus pond of maría Luisa park, though these are currently believed to be unrelated to the avian flu outbreak. On Thursday alone, maintenance crews at the Real Alcázar discovered a deceased adult turkey and a duck, prompting immediate removal following strict biosafety protocols.
“We are taking these findings extremely seriously,” said a city council spokesperson. “Necropsies and pathological analysis are being conducted on the birds found at the Alcázar, with results expected within 24 to 48 hours. The parks will remain closed until we have a clearer understanding of the cause of these deaths
