Apple SF Symbols 7 Beta Introduces New Animation Tools and Icons
updated June 12,2025
Apple has launched the beta version of SF Symbols 7,a significant update to its system iconography toolkit, alongside new design resources for iOS 26,iPadOS 26,and macOS Tahoe 26. The update brings hundreds of new icons, animation tools, and transitions to enhance app design.
The latest update offers enhancements such as new Draw animations, improved Magic Replace transitions, variable rendering support, and automatic gradients. These features are designed to integrate seamlessly with Apple’s design language across iOS 26 and other platforms.

SF Symbols 7 is a library of over 6,900 symbols designed to integrate seamlessly with San Francisco, the system font for Apple platforms. Symbols come in nine weights and three scales, automatically align with text, and can be exported and edited using vector graphics tools to create custom symbols with shared design characteristics and accessibility features. SF Symbols 7 introduces draw animations and variable rendering, enhanced Magic Replace, gradients, and hundreds of new symbols.
The beta version includes features that are essential for designers and developers aiming to build consistent, native-looking apps for iOS, macOS, visionOS, and other Apple platforms.
Draw Animations
SF Symbols 7 introduces Draw On and draw Off animation presets, which animate symbols in and out of view. These animations utilize the layered structure of symbols, allowing developers to coordinate motion across different parts of the icon. The tool offers options for animating the entire symbol at once, offsetting layers, or revealing layers one by one.

Variable Draw
Building on Variable Color, Variable Draw enables more dynamic visual feedback, ideal for conveying strength or progress. When symbols are properly annotated, layers can animate in a fluid, data-driven manner, providing designers with greater control over the visual message.

Enhanced Magic Replace
Apple’s tool for transitioning between related symbols has been upgraded, allowing for smoother transitions when two icons share an enclosure shape. This results in more coherent symbol transitions, especially in interfaces where quick visual feedback is crucial.
Gradient Rendering
SF Symbols 7 now automatically generates linear gradients from a single source color, whether system-defined or custom. These gradients work across all rendering modes, adding depth and polish without compromising legibility.

Localized and Platform-Ready
The update includes hundreds of new symbols and refinements to existing ones, aligned with apple’s universal design language. It supports more localized variants across scripts like Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Devanagari, and other Indic systems. These are available across iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26.
