SG Culture Pass: 3 CNY Movies at Golden Village 2024

Singaporean moviegoers have a new incentive to celebrate the Chinese New Year at Golden Village cinemas. The S$100 SG Culture Pass credits, designed to support local arts and heritage activities, are now redeemable for tickets to three Singaporean films currently showing: 3 Good Guys, Liang Po Po Vs Ah Beng, and Luck My Life.

The move, announced on , effectively offers a significant discount on movie tickets for Singaporean citizens. The SG Culture Pass Everyday Movie e-Voucher, priced at $16, can be purchased using the credits and redeemed for a single ticket to any of the three featured films. This brings the out-of-pocket cost down considerably.

Liang Po Po Vs Ah Beng, a cross-border production directed by Malaysian filmmaker Matt Lai, is set to open on . The film reunites Singaporean director-actor Jack Neo as Liang Po Po and Malaysian Radio DJ-actor Jack Lim as Ah Beng. Luck My Life, starring Tay Ping Hui and Richie Koh, also debuts on .

The initiative isn’t limited to specific showtimes or days. Redemptions are valid for all screenings, including Chinese New Year Eve, the first day of Chinese New Year, and the second day. This broad accessibility aims to maximize participation and support for local filmmakers during the festive period.

The process for redeeming tickets is straightforward. Moviegoers can visit the SG Culture Pass website, search for “GV,” and select one of the three eligible films. They will then be redirected to Klook to purchase the “SG Culture Pass Everyday Movie e-voucher.” Finally, the e-voucher code is used during checkout on the Golden Village website or iGV app to select seats and showtimes.

A small convenience fee of $2 applies to all e-Voucher redemptions made through the Golden Village website or iGV app. This fee, however, cannot be covered by the SG Culture Pass credits.

The redemption period extends until , but is subject to voucher availability. A maximum of four e-Vouchers can be used per transaction. This limitation is likely intended to ensure wider distribution of the benefit.

The inclusion of these films within the SG Culture Pass program represents a notable expansion of the pass’s utility. Originally designed for heritage exhibitions, workshops, and shows, the program’s extension to cinema tickets demonstrates a commitment to supporting the broader arts and culture ecosystem in Singapore. The move also acknowledges the significant role that film plays in Singaporean cultural life, particularly during major festivals like Chinese New Year.

3 Good Guys, a Thai-Singapore romantic comedy, features Singaporean influencers Simonboy (Simon Khung), Mayiduo (Kelvin Tan), and Tommy Wong. The film centers on a man whose marriage prospects are threatened by his future mother-in-law, and the comedic misadventures he and his friends experience after a visit to a Thai shrine.

The SG Culture Pass program, aimed at Singaporeans aged 18 and above, is a government initiative designed to encourage participation in local arts and heritage activities. By making these films more accessible, the program hopes to bolster attendance and provide financial support to the Singaporean film industry during a traditionally strong box office period.
