Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered a stellar performance with 37 points and nine assists as the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Phoenix Suns 120-107 in Game 2 of their Western Conference first-round playoff series on Wednesday night, securing a 2-0 series lead.

The Thunder avoided joining a list of higher-seeded teams that had lost home games early in the playoffs by shooting 47.3% from the field and forcing 21 turnovers. Gilgeous-Alexander had scored 25 points in the series-opening win on Sunday but struggled with his shooting, going 5 for 18 from the field. In Game 2, he bounced back with an efficient 13-for-25 shooting performance after being honored with the NBA Clutch Player of the Year trophy prior to tip-off.

Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams each contributed 19 points for Oklahoma City. Williams, an All-Star selection for the 2024-25 season, made his first six field goals and had 19 points at halftime but exited the game in the third quarter due to a left hamstring injury and did not return. He had missed 30 games during the regular season with a right hamstring injury after recovering from surgery on his right wrist that caused him to miss the first 19 games of the year.

Dillon Brooks led the Phoenix Suns with 30 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Devin Booker added 22 points and Jalen Green contributed 21 for Phoenix. The Thunder held a 65-57 advantage at halftime, with Gilgeous-Alexander accounting for 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting in the first half.

The second half began with heightened intensity as Brooks and Thunder guard Lu Dort—both members of Canada’s national team—received double technical fouls following a brief skirmish after a made free throw. Holmgren started the third quarter strongly, scoring eight points in just over four minutes to help extend Oklahoma City’s lead to 77-63 and prompt a Phoenix timeout.

The Suns will host Game 3 of the series on Saturday as they look to avoid falling into a 0-3 deficit. Oklahoma City aims to maintain its defensive discipline and offensive balance to close out the series on the road.
