Investors in Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB) 2017-18⁣ Series X saw important⁢ gains, realizing ₹6,669 per gram—a⁢ 225% increase—through premature redemption. These bonds, initially issued Dec.4, 2017, ⁣at ₹2,961 per gram, offered ⁤an attractive opportunity for early exit.

The window for premature redemption ‍spanned from May 5 to May 26, allowing investors to submit requests via receiving offices, NSDL, CDSL, or RBI Retail Direct.The government had announced the issuance of this series oct. 6, 2017.

Premature redemption is permitted ⁣after the fifth year from the issue date, coinciding with an interest payment date. The ‍SGB redemption price is determined by averaging the closing gold price (999 purity)⁤ from the three business days before redemption,as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA).

In this instance, the redemption price was ₹9,630 per gram, calculated⁢ from the average closing gold prices of May 30, ⁤June 2, and June 3, 2025.
