The study, published recently, highlights the need to understand factors contributing to this failure to improve adherence to clinical guidelines.

Background:
The use of SGLT2is has increased due to their metabolic, cardio-, and nephro-protective benefits. Four SGLT2is are currently FDA-approved: anagliflozin, dapagliflozin, empagliflozin, and ertugliflozin. This study aimed to address the gap in research regarding factors influencing SGLT2i treatment failure in patients with T2D.
Study Methodology:
Researchers used administrative claims data from millions of US patients, focusing on adults with T2D who initiated SGLT2i treatment between January 1, 2016, and April 30, 2024.The study evaluated risk factors, treatment patterns, and clinical and economic burden associated with SGLT2i failure.
