Shaboozey Shines at Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Halftime Show

The Detroit Lions won their Thanksgiving Day game, and Shaboozey performed at halftime.

His seven-minute set included three songs from his album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going: “Last of My Kind,” “Highway,” and “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which has spent 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 100. Shaboozey wore a Lions varsity jacket and performed with his band and ten local dancers.

The NFL’s head of music, Seth Dudowsky, stated they aim to feature artists that resonate with families. They chose Shaboozey in mid-September due to his rising popularity.

After performing, Shaboozey engaged with fans, taking selfies and shaking hands. He also met U.S. Marines and interacted with stadium staff. Bruce Rodgers, the production designer, noted Shaboozey was excited but nervous, yet he connected well with the audience.

The halftime show required precise timing. Rodgers and his team trained local crew members to handle stage setup efficiently.

During Shaboozey’s performance, the Lions and Bears’ placekickers warmed up, and the atmosphere was lively. Eminem was in attendance, shown on the screens, while a video from James Hetfield of Metallica played to energize the crowd.

Tim Allen, a long-time Lions fan, enjoyed the game with his wife, praising Shaboozey’s performance as a bonus to the football experience.

The Lions’ victory marked their first Thanksgiving win since 2016, adding to the day’s celebrations.
