A scheduled Shakira concert at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., has been canceled. The Colombian pop star, known for her hits in the early 2000s, was set to perform as part of her “las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” world tour. The performance was also slated to be the welcome concert for WorldPride DC.
The cancellation stems from complications encountered during a previous show in Boston. Stage safety concerns prevented the full production from being transported to D.C. in time for the concert.
“Like Shakira’s fans and our friends and family who have traveled from around the world to join us in DC this weekend,we are deeply disappointed that unforeseen circumstances have forced the cancellation,” the Capital Pride Alliance stated.
The Capital Pride Alliance affirmed that other weekend programming will proceed as scheduled. “WorldPride will absolutely continue as planned!” they said.
“Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am sad and heartbroken that I will not be able to be in washington, D.C. with you tomorrow,” Shakira said. “I hope that I can come back to D.C., as soon as I am able.”
