Shalmali Kholgade’s “Way You Move” Celebrates Love and Dance
Mumbai-based pop artist Shalmali Kholgade has released “Way You Move,” a new song dedicated to her husband’s captivating dance style. The track is accompanied by a heartwarming music video set at a wedding, starring Kubbra Sait and Kunal Thakur.

The “Way You Move” music video, directed by Dheer Momaya and written by Dar Gai of Jugaad Motion Pictures, portrays a charming, low-budget wedding. The video simulates everything from catering to red carpet moments in what they call the “Smallest biggest* wedding ever.” The new song showcases Kholgade’s talent in the pop music scene.
Even though the video has a wedding theme, Kholgade said the song’s inspiration is her husband. “my husband is the inspiration behind this song. I love how he dances,” Kholgade said. “When he is in the mood, he dances like no one is watching. Carefree and in his own world. I adore that about him. So the song is actually about how he moves.”
she added that the wedding concept came to mind later,as the song radiated happiness. Kholgade praised the filmmakers, noting the video’s warm colors and seemingly one-shot filming style. “It was fully their [Momaya and Gai’s] idea to cast Kubbra and Kunal in the video,” she said. “I appear briefly in the video, so I have to say the most fun was being in that room, with the entire cast, in the heat, but still smiling, dancing, screaming and having a ball.”
Kholgade, who previously released the hip-hop-influenced “All Good?” with producer Clifr in May,wrote “Way You Move” during a 2023 trip to Los Angeles. she collaborated with Miranda Glory and producer David Burris, resulting in two songs: “Grind,” released in 2024, and “Way you Move.” Shloke Lal later added Hindi lyrics to complete the track. The new song adds to Kholgade’s growing discography.
“When we wrote the song, it was completely in English. But it was when I got back to India that I felt like ‘Way You Move’ showed all signs of being a Hindi tune. That’s when Shloke came into the picture,” she said.
What’s next
Kholgade plans to release more bilingual pop music with young producers and collaborate with indie artists like jai Karki and Dhruv Visvanath. ”This is the language we all speak,” she said. “Exciting times ahead!”
